Untitled (Screenplay Script Sample)

This is a scene sample from a short film about Marcia, an awkward, shut-in bookstore owner who hires and falls in love with Darcy, her polar opposite. Everything is going well for Marcia except for one thing: a strange book she acquires that seems to be about her. The story is what I call a spooky romance. It’s a late-bloomer coming-of-age love story with some supernatural flavoring.

I’ve included this piece to showcase my understanding of the differences between script writing for the screen rather than for print. When writing for the screen, time is precious; every scene, every conversation, must contribute to the plot in some way. In this scene, the viewer learns some of Marcia’s history. Then viewers watch her experience a small bout of character growth as she learns to dance, which helps her come further out of her shell. That character development leads into relationship development with Darcy as the two become closer. One thing leads into the other, etc.
